Utah State Football Ranks 15th in the Nation in Scoring Offense and Among the Top 40 Teams in the Nation in 12 Different Statistical Categories

LOGAN, Utah – Following its come-from-behind 44-24 Mountain West home win against Colorado State Saturday night, Utah State leads the MW and ranks 15th in the nation in scoring offense at 38.2 points per game. Overall, USU ranks among the top 40 teams in the nation in 12 different statistical categories.
 
Offensively, Utah State is first in the MW and 15th in the nation in scoring offense (38.2 ppg), first in the MW and 24th in the nation in total offense (462.8 ypg), second in the MW and 32nd in the nation in passing efficiency (156.9), third in the MW and 20th in the nation in passing offense (296.0 ypg), fourth in the MW and 41st in the nation in completion percentage (.643), sixth in the MW and 55th in the nation in rushing offense (166.8 ypg), and 11th in the MW and 111th in the nation in sacks allowed with 19 (3.2 pg).
 
Utah State is also second in the MW and 28th in the nation in first downs with 132 (22.0 pg), fourth in the MW and 44th in the nation in passing yards per completion (13.0), fifth in the MW and 37th in the nation in yards per rush attempt (4.8), sixth in the MW and 46th in the nation in turnover margin (+0.33), sixth in the MW and 46th in the nation in red zone offense (.875), seventh in the MW and 40th in the nation in fourth down conversions (.615), and seventh in the MW and 55th in the nation in fumbles lost with three (0.50 pg).
 
Defensively, Utah State is fifth in the MW and 80th in the nation in tackles for loss with 33 (5.5 pg), fifth in the MW and 55th in the nation in passing efficiency defense (126.2), seventh in the MW and 86th in the nation in passing defense (241.2 ypg), seventh in the MW in rushing defense (165.7 ypg), eighth in the MW in total defense (406.8 ypg), eighth in the MW in scoring defense (32.2 ppg), and eighth in the MW in sacks with eight (1.33 pg).
 
Utah State is also first in the MW and third in the nation with 14 forced turnovers this season, behind Western Kentucky (16) and Oklahoma (15), and tied with California, Louisville and UAB. USU is also first in the MW and fifth in the nation in passes intercepted with eight (1.6 pg), and second in the MW and eighth in the nation in fumbles recovered with six (1.0 pg). USU is also of 24 FBS teams in the nation with two defensive touchdowns this season.
 
On special teams, Utah State is sixth in the MW and 54th in the nation in punt returns (9.8 ypr), sixth in the MW and 64th in the nation in kickoff return defense (19.5 ypr), seventh in the MW and 92nd in the nation in kickoff returns (18.1 ypr), 11th in the MW in net punting (36.4 ypp), and 11th in the MW in punt return defense (15.3 ypr).
 
Individually, sophomore safety Ike Larsen is tied for first in the nation with two blocked kicks (0.33 pg), tied for first in the MW and fourth in the nation with one defensive touchdown (0.17 pg), is second in the MW and seventh in the nation with three interceptions (0.50 pg), and third in the MW and 32nd in the nation in passes defended (1.2 pg). Junior cornerback Jaiden Francois is tied for first in the MW and fourth in the nation with one defensive touchdown (0.17 pg). Senior wide receiver Terrell Vaughn is first in the MW and sixth in the nation in receiving touchdowns with seven (1.20 pg), second in the MW and fifth in the nation in receptions (7.7 pg), sixth in the MW and 37th in the nation in receiving yards (81.7 ypg), and sixth in the MW and 81st in the nation in all-purpose yards (95.0 ypg). Junior wide receiver Jalen Royals is first in the MW and sixth in the nation in receiving touchdowns with seven (1.2 pg), third in the MW and 24th in the nation in receiving (87.0 ypg), fourth in the MW and 72nd in the nation in yards per reception (16.3), and seventh in the MW and 47th in the nation in receptions (5.3 pg). Junior wide receiver Micah Davis is first in the MW and 11th in the nation in yards per reception (21.8), second in the MW and 22nd in the nation in punt returns (10.6 ypr), and seventh in the MW and 35th in the nation with four receiving touchdowns (0.67 pg). Graduate senior quarterback Cooper Legas is first in the MW and 20th in the nation in completion percentage (.690), first in the MW and 23rd in the nation in passing efficiency (163.6), fourth in the MW and 43rd in the nation in passing touchdowns with 10 (2.0 pg), fourth in the MW and 49th in the nation in yards per completion (12.5), fifth in the MW and 53rd in the nation in points responsible for (12.4 ppg), sixth in the MW and 71st in the nation in completions per game (15.6), sixth in the MW and 73rd in the nation in passing (195.0 ypg), and eighth in the MW and 82nd in the nation in total offense (201.2 ypg). Junior defensive end Blaine Spires is second in the MW and third in the nation in fumbles recovered with two (0.33 pg). Junior running back Davon Booth is second in the MW and 24th in the nation in yards per carry (6.37), and sixth in the MW and 58th in the nation in rushing touchdowns with four (0.67 pg). Senior punter Stephen Kotsanlee is fifth in the MW and 32nd in the nation in punting (43.5 ypp). Sophomore safety Devin Dye is fifth in the MW and 33rd in the nation in interceptions with two (0.33 pg). Graduate senior inside linebacker MJ Tafisi Jr. is sixth in the MW and 41st in the nation in tackles (8.5 pg). Junior placekicker Elliott Nimrod is sixth in the MW and 59th in the nation in field goal percentage (.750), sixth in the MW and 60th in the nation in field goals (1.00 pg), and ninth in the MW and 64th in the nation in scoring (7.7 ppg).  Redshirt freshman defensive end Paul Fitzgerald is sixth in the MW and 93rd in the nation in sacks with 3.0 (0.50 pg). Redshirt junior safety Anthony Switzer is seventh in the MW and 29th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.17 pg). Graduate senior offensive lineman Wade Meacham is seventh in the MW and 29th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.17 pg). Junior defensive end Cian Slone is seventh in the MW and 29th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.17 pg). And, sophomore defensive tackle Seni Tuiaki is seventh in the MW and 29th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.17 pg).
