LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's basketball fifth year guard Ian Martinez has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Jan. 5. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
 
Martinez helped the Aggies to a 2-0 week, earning a 69-64 win at Nevada and an 89-83 home win over Fresno State. On the week, Martinez averaged 16.5 points as he shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the floor, 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from 3-point range and 100 percent (7-of-7) at the free throw line. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
 
Against the Wolf Pack, Martinez scored a team-high 17 points, all of which were in the final seven minutes of the team's comeback, to go along with three assists and two rebounds. Against the Bulldogs, Martinez had 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. 
 
UP NEXT
Utah State returns to the road this week as it travels to face San José State on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Senior Cheyenne Stubbs (Bradenton, Florida) led the Aggies in their lone game last week with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting as Utah State lost at Wyoming 73-53. Stubbs shot 2-of-4 from 3-point range and hit both of her free throw attempts. She also added two assists and two steals. 
 
GYMNASTICS – Sophomore Nyla Morabito (Welland, Ontario, Canada) was named the Utah State Gymnast of the Meet as she finished second on floor with 9.850 and tied for fifth on vault with 9.750 against No. 5 Utah last weekend in both team's season opener. USU scored a 194.450 in the meet and Utah scored a 196.775.
