BRIGHTON, Colo. - After posting a 289 team score on Monday, the ninth best mark of the second round, Utah State's golf team found the weather conditions difficult on Tuesday and finished 14th in the 14-team Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate here.
Utah State posted a 311 team total on the final day in cold, windy conditions at Riverdale Dunes, just outside of Denver. Kevin Mullen had the best day among the Aggie fivesome as he shot a two-over par 74. Cody Huot posted a 76 and his 229 total tied Marcus Myers for the best finish among the Aggies as they tied for 52nd.
Myers, who shot 77 in the opening round and then fired a three-under par 69 in the second round, posted an 83 to close the tournament. Wade Cowen shot 78 on the final day and tied for 61st at 231, while Mullen tied for 71st at 235 and Phil Kalivas placed 77th at 241.
Denver , which placed all five of its golfers in the top 12 individually, won the tournament finishing 11 shots ahead of runnerup North Carolina Wilmington. Texas El Paso was third, while Oregon State and Nevada rounded out the top five.
UNC Wilmington's Derek Brown earned medalist honors with a 208 total. Five shots behind was Nathan Fritz of Texas El Paso.
Utah State's next tournament will be at Boise State on Oct. 14 and 15.
