BEAUMONT, Calif. - Utah State opened its spring golf season with a 16th place finish at the UC Riverside-Braveheart Classic here on Tuesday. Phil Kalivas and Cody Huot led the Aggies in the final round by shooting scores of 75 and 76 respectively.

Huot paced the Aggies with a 236 total to finish 74th in the individual race. After opening the tournament with an 84, Huot responded with consecutive rounds of 76. Kalivas' final-day 75 helped him to a 237 total and a tie for 75th place.

Host UC Riverside won the tournament by 23 strokes. The Highlanders shot 845 to defeat runner-up Denver, which scored 868. Utah was third at 870, while Cal Poly had 876 and Cal State Northridge shot 880. Utah State shot 966 with its best round coming on the final day with a 313. Other schools from the state included Weber State, ninth at 886 and Southern Utah, 15th at 919.

In addition to Huot and Kalivas, USU's Jason Blair finished 83rd at 245, Kevin Mullen placed 84th at 248 and Danny Kettle was 86th at 262.

Utah State's next action will be at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, March 31 through April 1.
