Huot Leads USU Golf at Santa Barbara Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cody Huot shot back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 on the first day, before carding a 78 on the final day as Utah State finished 21st out of 21 teams at the UC Santa Barbara Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate here on Tuesday.

Fresno State won the tournament by two shots over UC Irvine. UC Riverside was four back and Texas-El Paso was seven shots out of first place. Nick Watney of Fresno State won medalist honors by nine strokes with UC Irvine's Mike Lavery and UC Riverside's Brendan Steele tied for second.

Huot was Utah State's top finisher for the fifth time in five tournaments this season. The freshman shot a 222 total to tie for 70th. Marcus Myers, who shot 75 and 73 on the first day, shot an 80 and tied for 90th.

Phil Kalivas had the best final round by an Aggie as he shot 77 and finished tied for 99th at 233. Other Aggie finishers included Chris Combe (105th at 240) and Jason Blair (tied for 16th at 241).

USU will continue its spring action traveling to the Grand Canyon University/Thunderbird Invitational at Goodyear, Ariz. on April 7-8.
