EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. - Phil Kalivas posted the best round by an Aggie for the second straight day as he tied for 23rd to lead Utah State at the Big West Conference Golf Championships here on Tuesday.

The Aggies finished ninth with a 635 total, which included a 313 on Tuesday, nine shots better than its first round score, in the final round. UC Irvine won the league title with a 581 total. Three teams tied for second eight shots back, including Idaho, Cal Poly and Long Beach State.

UC Irvine's Mike Livery won medalist honors with a 138 total. He defeated runner-up Pete Sisich of Cal State Northridge, who fired a seven-under par 65 in the second round to finish one shot off the pace.

Kalivas, USU's lone senior playing in the tournament, shot a final day 75 and finished at 152. Freshmen Cody Huot and Marcus Myers were tied for 35th and 39th with scores of 158 and 159 respectively.

Huot shot a second round 79 as did teammate Kevin Mullen. Mullen finished 44th at 166, while Chris Combe rounded out USU's fivesome in 45th place with a 174 total.

The tournament was shortened to 36 holes from its originally scheduled 54 holes due to rain on Monday afternoon.

Utah State will conclude its golf season at the BYU Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday, April 25-26.
