PROVO, Utah - Freshman Marcus Myers fired rounds of 74 and 76 to lead Utah State at the annual Ping Cougar Classic hosted by Brigham Young University here on Friday.
The Aggies are 12th in the 12-team tournament after two of the three rounds. Denver and host BYU are tied for first at 567, with Colorado State third at 571 and Utah fourth at 572.
Other state teams in the event include Southern Utah, which is tied for eighth at 595, Weber State 11th at 605 and Utah State in 12th at 610.
Martin Laird of Colorado State owns a four-stroke lead in the individual race heading into Saturday's final round as he shot 69 and 71 on Friday for an eight-under par 136.
Myers, a USU freshman, shot a 74 in Friday's morning round before adding a 76 in the afternoon. His 150 total is tied for 37th. USU's Phil Kalivas and Cody Huot each shot 75s in the second round to top the Aggies in the afternoon.
Kalivas is tied for 43red at 151, while Huot is tied for 53rd at 155. Other Aggies include Chris Combe, tied for 57th at 156 and Jason Blair, tied for 61st at 157.
The 54-hole event is scheduled for completion on Saturday morning.
