LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's tennis defeated Seattle, 4-3, at home Sunday to improve to 5-9 on the season including a 1-4 record in Western Athletic Conference play.
In singles play, sophomore McKenzie Davis defeated Anna Lambert in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-0, 6-1). At the No. 2 spot, senior Jaci West fell to Lindsey Newman in straight sets (6-4, 6-0). At the No. 3 spot, senior Kristina Voytsekhovich was taken down by Gabriella Weissmann in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). At the No. 4 spot, freshman Kallie Sperry defeated Sarah Lucas in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-3). At the No. 5 spot, sophomore Hillary Hays fell to Corinne Wurden in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). And at the No. 6 spot, freshman Ashley Stuhlmann posted her first collegiate singles victory when she defeated Kristen James in straight sets (6-1, 6-3).
In doubles play, the Aggies secured the point winning two of the three matches. Davis and West defeated Steffanie Mortera and Gabriella Weissmann at the first position, 8-1. At the second position, Sperry and Voytsekhovich took down Lucas and Newman, 8-2. The third match was left unfinished.
The Aggies will now take a break from WAC play as they travel to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP on Thursday, Apr. 11 at 2 p.m.
