LOGAN, Utah – Richard "Doc" Gordin, who has been at Utah State for 39 years and is an emeritus professor at the university, has been named as a mental performance coach for the Aggies.
"I am extremely happy to be working with the great student-athletes and coaches at Utah State," Gordin said. "It is a passion of mine to help them achieve their dreams."
Gordin is a professor in the department of kinesiology and health science at Utah State, and is an adjunct professor in the department of psychology. He was the department's graduate coordinator for 15 years.
Gordin has authored 100 articles and book chapters, and has made 400 professional presentations at state, regional, national and international conferences. He has been a sport psychology consultant for numerous athletic teams at Utah State, along with USA Gymnastics, USA Track and Field, the US Ski and Snowboard Association and several professionals on the PGA and Champions Tours.
The native of Delaware, Ohio, is the former chair of the certification committee of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and is listed on the sport psychology and mental training registry of the United States Olympic Committee for the 2017-2020 quadrennium. He was the sport psychology consultant for the USA Women's Gymnastics Team in Seoul in 1988 and a sport psychology consultant for the USA Track & Field Team for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
Most recently, Gordin served as the consultant for the USA Nordic Combined Ski Team in Vancouver in 2010 and in Sochi 2014.
During the 2010 spring semester, Gordin was a visiting professor at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and in the summer of 2011, he was a visiting professor at the Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Gdansk, Poland.
Gordin graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1973, coached high school sports for five years and then earned his doctorate in sports psychology.
