Final Stats

LOGAN, Utah - Christina Zdenek was the only Aggie in double figures as Utah State lost 67-52 to Pacific in women's basketball action here Saturday night. With the loss, Utah State fell to 4-17 overall and 4-9 in the Big West Conference. Pacific improved to 11-11 overall and 10-3 in the league.

Zdenek scored 11 points, while Anne-Marie Torp added eight points and Brittany Tressler and Stephanie Grant chipped in seven apiece. Pacific was led by point guard Corinne Wong, who scored a game-high 16 points, while handing out five assists and grabbing five rebounds. Andrea Nederostek added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Alicia Smith chipped in 10 for the Tigers.

Utah State shot just 30.2 percent in the game and was out-rebounded 44-29 by the Tigers. Pacific recorded 10 blocked shots with five by Nederostek and four by Smith.

Pacific never trailed in the game as it jumped out to a quick nine-point lead at 11-2 just six minutes into the game. UOP upped the lead to 21-8 at the 8:03 mark of the first half. USU scored the final four points of the first half to cut the margin to six (30-24) at halftime.

"The start of the game doesn't control whether you win or lose the game," said USU head coach Raegan Pebley. "We just gave up too much in the paint. They got the ball inside whenever they wanted to and capitalized on it."

After USU came within 34-30 at the 16:21 mark of the second half, Pacific responded with an 8-0 run to regain control of the contest. USU never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

UOP shot 50.0 percent in the second half and connected on 18 of 24 free throws in the game as well. Meanwhile USU hit just 29.2 percent of its second half shots.

"We came out really flat," Pebley said. "I don't know why, but we had some jitters both offensively and defensively. We were not creating much as far as turnovers."

The Aggies will travel to UC Riverside on Thursday, Feb. 19 and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Feb. 21.
