Utah State's women's tennis team pulled away with a close win over North Texas on Saturday. The win puts the Aggies at 2-3 this spring season.

In singles action North Texas started out strong winning the No. 1 and 2 spots. Courtney Anderson got the Aggies their first win at the No. 3 spot defeating Aziza Aba Butain 6-1, 6-3. Aggies also took the No. 4 spot by Dee-Dee Nelson and No. 5 by Andrea Barker in result winning three of six singles matches.

In doubles action seniors Lindsey Bennion and Andrea Barker took the No. 1 spot defeating Megan Schmulbach and Sammie Moreton 8-4. Lauren Monson and Jill Smith lost at the No. 2 doubles but Courtney Anderson and Dee-Dee Nelson won at the No. 3 spot defeating Sara Giles and Ina Wieding 9-7 to give the Aggies the doubles point.

"Everyone had great team effort from start to finish," said coach Christian Wright. "Everyone was focused and played so well which resulted in a nice win for our team."

The winning point came down to freshman Dee-Dee Nelson in her third set defeating Megan Schmulbach 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. "Dee-Dee played great tennis for knowing that her match would determine the teams match overall," said Wright. "The men's team was there helping us cheer Dee-Dee along and she pulled through and got our team the winning point."

The Aggies will play again on Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. against New Mexico State.
