LAS VEGAS - Utah State's men's tennis opened competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals Tournament on Wednesday in Las Vegas with four wins in singles play and one win in the doubles bracket.
Junior Sven Poslusny went in to the tournament as the No. 25-seed and won his first match against Clint Vidano from Idaho, (6-4, 3-6, 6-2). Freshman Matt Sweet defeated Arizona's Carlos Bermudez in two sets, (7-6, 6-2).
Later in the afternoon, sophomore Fredrik Peterson defeated Vinni Lodola from the Air Force Academy (7-6, 6-1). Freshman Andrew Whiting beat Weber State's Scott Hinze (3-6, 6-2, 6-2).
In doubles action, the duo of Peterson and freshman Marcus Fritz are the only Aggie team to advance to the next round. They defeated Dylan Hansel and Ben Rode from Weber State, (8-2).
The next rounds of both doubles and singles play will start at 10 a.m. (MT), Thursday.
