LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head cross country coach Gregg Gensel announced the Aggies' schedule for the 2015 season on Monday.
The Aggies get the season started at home by hosting the USU Invitational on the newly-named Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course on Saturday, Sept. 5. This will mark the 11th-consecutive year the Aggies have opened at home.
"You always want to get to know the student-athletes, get them comfortable with the coaching and get the veterans knowing the new people," Gensel said. "Being able to go through the first part of the season and not have to run in a competition that's away from our campus for the first few weeks is really nice because it gives them a chance to get familiar with the training and the things they need to do to accomplish the goals we set for this year."
Following a two-week rest period, the Aggies travel to Bozeman, Mont., for the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19. The following week, USU will hit the road again as it competes in the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 26 in St. Paul, Minn.
The Aggies open the Halloween month by traveling to Cedar City, Utah, to race in the Southern Utah University Invitational on Oct. 10. USU will then head to the Bluegrass State to compete in the Pre-Nationals, which will be held at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. This race will serve as the final tune-up for the Mountain West Championships on Oct. 30 in Reno, Nev.
"The pre-national meet gives us a chance to look at the course that we run on for nationals," Gensel said.
The NCAA Mountain Region Championship will be held in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 13 - eight days before the NCAA Championship in Louisville on Nov. 21.
