Utah State senior golfer Eli Rogers shot an opening round 2-under-par 70 and Utah State is currently in fourth-place with a 3-under 285 following the opening round of the Southern Utah-hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held here at the Sunbrook Golf Club on Monday.

Utah State's Braxton Miller and Eli Rogers Tie for 14th Place at UC Irvine Invitational

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. -

Utah State golfers Braxton Miller and Eli Rogers both tied for 14th place at 11-over 227 at the UC Irvine-hosted Anteater Invitational held here at the El Niguel Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. For Rogers, it is his best-ever 54-hole finish, while Miller tied his best-ever finish.

Utah State finished the tournament in seventh place in the 10-team field with a 62-over 926 (304-310-312). Long Beach State won the tournament with a 27-over 891 (302-293-296) and the 49ers Daniel Chian took medalist honors with a 1-over-par 217 (75-73-69).

Miller, a sophomore, began the tournament by shooting a 1-over 73 during his first round and then carded a 4-over 76 during his second 18 holes, before finishing the tournament with a 6-over 78 to post his 11-over 227. Rogers, a junior, began the tournament with rounds of 75 and 77, before firing a 3-over 75 during his final 18 holes to also finish at 11-over 227.

Other Aggies to compete in the tournament included junior Tanner Jenson, who tied for 38th place at 21-over 237 (77-80-80), senior Seokwon Jeon, who tied for 51st place at 25-over 241 (79-77-85), and freshman Keifer Higham, who finished in 57th place at 29-over 245 (84-82-79).

Utah State will return to action on Monday, April 4 as it travels to Chandler, Ariz., to compete in the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic.
