Utah State jumped out to an early lead Saturday, highlighted by a pair of 3-point shots from West and freshman guard Dee Moore. The Aggie defense held the Wolf Pack to an early scoring drought, which it snapped with a pair of free throws. That started a quick 9-0 run for Nevada who took its first lead with 38 seconds to play in the first. Moore added another layup at the end of the quarter, evening the score at 14.
The teams traded shots back-and-forth in the early minutes of the second quarter, making for five lead changes and two ties over the first five minutes. Behind two solid trips to the free throw line, Utah State scored six-straight points to build back up to a seven-point lead. Nevada hit two back-to-back field goals, but with a similar finish to the first quarter, Moore hit the last layup. With that shot, Utah State took a 29-24 lead into the halftime break.
Nevada came out of the locker room with an offensive surge, going on a 7-0 run to take the lead back. From there, the third quarter was very evenly played, keeping the score within four the entire time. Brewster had the strongest performance for the Aggies through the third, scoring nine of her points of the day in that period. She and freshman forward Hailey Bassett combined to score all of Utah State's 13 third-quarter points. As Brewster knocked down another pair of free throws, USU pulled back within one, 43-42, at the end of the third.
Not ready to quit, Nevada again had a strong start to the third quarter, as Cephas made three field goals over the first 90 seconds to put the Wolf Pack up seven. However, the Aggies responded with a 9-0 run to pull back ahead. Utah State took the lead for the last time at the 2:39 mark on a 3-pointer from Brewster. The game came down to free throws in the final seconds. Nevada was fouled behind the arc and looked to tie the score, but the shooter went 2-for-3. With three seconds to play, the Aggies drew a foul and West was able to secure the victory at the line.
Overall, Utah State shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the field, including 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the 3-point line, and was 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the free throw line.
