NORTHRIDGE, California --- Utah State women's tennis continued an impressive showing at the CSUN Invitational on Saturday. The Aggies went 2-0 in doubles matches and 6-4 in singles matches.
Seniors Annaliese County and Gabrielle Dekkers advanced to a consolation championship with a 6-3 win over Sacramento State's Maddy Ferreros and Lee Warisara. In an extra match, juniors Zeynep Naz Ozturk and Carolina Millan posted a 7-5 win over UC Irvine's Dasee Carter and Emily Fowler.
In singles play, County continued a perfect day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over New Mexico's Satoho Toriumi. County then reached a championship match by defeating CSU-Fullerton's Indya Nespor, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Millan also advanced through the second round, defeating UCI's Jessica Tsukiji, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Millan's tournament run came to an end in the semifinal round versus BYU's Yujia Huang, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Dekkers narrowly missed out on the semifinals, losing to UCI's Dasee Carter, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Sophomore Lisa Kung also fell in three sets, losing to UCI's Ysabel Gonzalez Rico, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Demerath lost to CSUN's Jasmine Tolmoyan, 6-0, 6-3. All three Aggies rebounded in the consolation brackets, however. Dekkers defeated Portland's Rimona Rouf in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Kung battled for a three-set win over Loyola Marymount's Vanesa Nikolovova, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5. Demerath also won in straight sets, defeating Portland's Annika Alcon, 6-2, 6-3.
Singles and doubles play is set to conclude at the LMU Invitational on Sunday.
