• Utah State track & field continues its outdoor season next week at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in College Station, Texas. Qualifying Aggies will compete Wednesday through Saturday, May 26-29, at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

M: 3/8; W: 7/11 --- at Mountain West Championships, Clovis, Calif.
• Utah State's track & field programs competed at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships last weekend in Clovis, Calif., where the Aggie men placed third with 107 points and the women finished seventh with 46 points. Senior Kyle Morris was the only Aggie to capture an event title as he placed first in the men's javelin with a throw of 65.36 meters (214-5) on his first attempt of the competition. Other Aggies on the men's side to earn a spot on the podium included graduate student Clark Brown in the 100 meters (third, 10.70), senior Luke Beattie in the 5,000 meters (third, 13:51.94), senior Kyle Brost in the triple jump (third, 14.69 meters/48-2.50), junior Skyler Andam in the long jump (third, 7.05 meters/6-8.75), freshman Kelton Chenworth in the high jump (third, 2.05 meters/6-8.75), freshman Gavin Beierle in the shot put (second, 16.21 meters/53-2.25) and sophomore Camren Todd in the 10,000 meters (second, 29:46.11). The men's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Brown, seniors Austin Lane, Nick Ashby and Garen Earley earned a bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay (third, 40.97). On the women's side, graduate student Audrey Garrett was the lone Aggie to earn a spot on the podium as she placed second in the high jump with a career-best mark of 1.80 meters (5-10.75), which ranks second all-time in school history.

• Utah State's softball team (14-30, 4-17 MW) concluded its 2021 season with a 1-3 home record last week, falling to BYU (4-0) before going 1-2 (L, 9-4; L, 9-3; W, 5-4) in a Mountain West series against New Mexico. Three pitchers split time in the circle during the week, posting a combined ERA of 5.25. The three allowed 41 hits and 21 earned runs, while striking out 12 batters and walking six. Senior outfielder Stephanie Reed led the Aggies at the plate, hitting .462 (6-of-13) on the week. As a team, USU hit .270 (31-of-115) across the four games, including two doubles, one triple and three home runs. Defensively, junior catcher/first baseman Gabriella Jimenez led the team with 27 putouts and one assist.
