Utah State Track & Field Places 7 Athletes on Outdoor All-Mountain West Team

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State track & field had seven student-athletes selected to the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field all-Mountain West team, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday. The top three finishers in each event at the MW Outdoor Championships earn all-conference honors.
 
Juniors Brennan Benson, Abbey Bryant, Kelton Chenworth, Djamilliah Paepke-Chile and Max Wehrli, sophomore Valerie Clark, and freshman Logan Hammer, came away with the distinction after the 2023 MW Outdoor Championships in Clovis, California.
 
Hammer and Benson were named all-MW after winning titles in the pole vault and 800 meters, respectively. Hammer cleared a personal-best height of 5.25 meters (17-2.75), which ranks fourth all-time at USU and sixth nationally among freshmen. Benson won the 800 with a personal-best time of 1:48.94, ranking fifth all-time at USU.
 
In the women's javelin, Clark and Paepke-Chile earned all-conference honors after each reached the podium to finish second and third, respectively. Clark recorded a mark of 49.07 meters (161-0), becoming only the second Aggie woman to clear the 49-meter mark. Paepke-Chile recorded her best mark of the competition and her career on her final throw with a heave of 48.94 meters (160-6). The duo rank second and third, respectively, all-time in the javelin at Utah State.
 
Chenworth was named all-MW in the high jump for the third-consecutive year, after placing third with a height of 2.03 meters (6-8.00). Wehrli was named all-MW in the men's steeplechase for the second-straight year, finishing third with a time of 8:46.79. 
 
Bryant was named all-MW in the 100-meter hurdles after taking third with a time of 13.65. Bryant also set a career-best time of 13.59 in the preliminary round, ranking seventh all-time at USU.
 
Utah State track & field is next in action at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Sacramento, California. The competition will take place Wednesday through Saturday, May 24-27.
