LOGAN, Utah – Four Utah State gymnasts,
Lexi Aragon,
Brianna Brooks,
Dani Kirstine and
Ariel Toomey, were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams, it was announced by the organization on Tuesday.
These are the first academic all-district honors for a Utah State gymnast in program history.
Aragon, a senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, holds a 3.88 GPA while majoring in environmental engineering. She is a three-time Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Scholastic All-American and academic all-Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honoree. In the 2023 campaign, Aragon competed on bars in all 10 meets of the season and on beam in seven meets, averaging 9.523 on bars and 9.529 on beam.
Brooks, a junior from Las Vegas, Nevada, has a 3.59 GPA while majoring in kinesiology. She was the 2023 NCAA North Central Region (Region 2) Gymnast of the Year and was named first-team all-MRGC in the all-around and second-team all-MRGC in bars. She is a two-time WCGA Scholastic All-American and academic all-MRGC honoree. In 2023, Brooks ranked second in the league, sixth in the region and 66th in the nation in the all-around with a National Qualifying Score of 39.160, while she was fifth in the conference, 11th in the region and tied for 75th nationally with an NQS of 9.880 on bars. She averaged 9.855 on bars and 9.820 on beam, which rank third and ninth all-time in school history. Brooks tied for third on bars in Session I of the NCAA Regional Championships, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a personal-best 9.925, which is tied for 11th all-time in school history and ranks second all-time for a regional meet.
Kirstine, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, holds a 3.79 while majoring in journalism. She was a 2022 WCGA Scholastic All-American and academic all-MRGC honoree. In 2023, Kirstine competed in all 10 meets of the season. She tied for third on bars (9.850) and tied for 15th on beam (9.775) at the 2023 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships.
Toomey graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in economics and marketing, finishing with a 3.81 GPA. The senior from Tacoma, Washington, is a three-time WCGA Scholastic All-American and academic all-MRGC honoree. Toomey garnered second-team all-Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honors on floor in 2023 after ranking sixth in the league and 20th in the North Central Region with a National Qualifying Score of 9.870 on the event. She averaged 9.863 on floor, which is tied for sixth all-time in school history.
