Utah State Men’s Tennis Announces 2023 Recruiting Class

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men's tennis head coach Aaron Paajanen has announced the signing of David Martirosian and Philipp Rein in advance of the 2023 fall tournament season, as well as Michael Kaplan, who will join USU prior to the 2024 dual match season.

Martirosian joins the Aggies after spending the previous two years at Glendale (California) Community College. Martirosian earned ITA CCCAA All-America honors in both singles and doubles while playing at the first position in both events. He was ranked first among singles players in the ITA SoCal region and ranked as high as 28th nationally in singles and 17th in doubles.

Philipp Rein comes to Utah State out of Kurpfalz-Gymnasium Mannheim in Germany. Rein achieved a career-high ranking in the junior ITF rankings of 582nd in January of 2022. Rein won titles on the ITF juniors singles circuit at the Leimen, Championships Baden-Württemberg, Championship of Baden and the Baden Junior Cup. He was the highest-ranked junior tennis player in Germany.

Michael Kaplan joins the Aggies out of Palisades Charter High School in Los Angeles, California. Kaplan was rated a four-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network and won the CIF LA City Section championship in 2022. Kaplan played in five USTA National Level 3 tournaments in 2022 at the Boys 18 level, reaching the quarterfinals in both January and April.
