Volleyball’s Adna Mehmedovic Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball's Adna Mehmedovic has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 3. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

The junior opposite side hitter led Utah State with 35 kills last week, as the Aggies posted a 3-0 home record with wins against Utah (3-0), Weber State (3-1) and LMU (3-2). 

Against the Utes, Mehmedovic had a team-best 10 kills, while adding 6.0 blocks and three digs. Against the Wildcats, she had a match-best 15 kills, while adding 6.0 blocks and two digs. And against the Lions, Mehmedovic had 10 kills, three digs, 1.0 blocks and one assist. 

For the week, the native of Peoria, Arizona, logged 35 kills, 13.0 blocks, eight digs and one assist.

Utah State next travels to College Station, Texas, for a tournament hosted by Texas A&M (5-0). The Aggies from Logan begin the tournament by taking on the Aggies from the Lone Star State on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. (MT).

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Junior Brennan Benson (Orem, Utah) placed first overall with a 7K time of 21:25 to lead Utah State to a first-place finish at the Sagebrush Invitational last weekend.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Freshman Natalie Swain (South Jordan, Utah) made her collegiate debut last weekend at the Sagebrush Invitational and led Utah State to a first-place finish by placing third with a 5K time of 18:33.

FOOTBALL – Graduate senior quarterback Cooper Legas (Orem, Utah) was 32-of-48 (.667) passing for 213 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Utah State's 24-14 loss at No. 25 Iowa last weekend. Legas' completions (32) and attempts (48) are both career highs. In fact, his 32 completions are tied for the third-most in a game in school history and the most by an Aggie since 2019.

GOLF – Junior Esteban Jaramillo (Bogota, Colombia) won all three of his matches at the Utah State-Weber State Cup to help the Aggies defeat the Wildcats 9-6. In alternate shot, Jaramillo played solo and beat Weber State's Oliver Gothe and Cormack Goecke. He teamed up with Luis Gerardo Cantu in best ball to beat the Wildcat duo of Issac Burger and Ty Anderson. Then on Sunday, Jaramillo's 2-up victory over Burger in singles play cemented Utah State's team victory.

SOCCER – Junior forward Bizzy Arevalo (Logan, Utah) had a hand in both goals during Utah State's 2-1 win against South Dakota State on Thursday, scoring in the ninth minute then recording an assist to Nicole Hadlock-Hardy in the 28th minute. This was the first three-point outing of her career, as she recorded her third-career goal and sixth-career assist. Arevalo also helped the Aggies post a shutout against South Dakota on Sunday as the team earned a 0-0 draw.
