SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah State's gymnastics team posted a 195.300 to place third at the Utah-hosted tri meet with Stanford at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday.
Utah State began the meet with a 48.900 on bars, followed by a 48.350 on beam, a 49.075 on floor and a 48.900 on bars.
Fifth-ranked Utah won the meet with a score of 198.300 and 25th-ranked Stanford placed second with a score of 196.500.
Head Coach Kristin White
"We were disappointed in the first half of the competition. We have been training with intention and unfortunately, we didn't see that on the competition floor tonight. We have to find a way to be aggressive from beginning to end. It's time to recover and gear up for another Mountain West matchup on Sunday.
Some individual performances that stood out to me were Juliette's (Boyer) season-high on bars, Sydney (Jelen) starting off the beam lineup and Brianna's (Brooks) stuck vault."
Rotation One – Bars (48.900)
Graduate student Juliette Boyer led Utah State scoring on bars with a season-high 9.900, which tied her for second place on the event. Senior Brianna Brooks followed as she placed 10th with a 9.825. A trio of Aggies in fifth-year senior Lexi Aragon, junior Amari Evans and sophomore Avery Bibbey tied for 12th scoring a 9.725.
Rotation Two – Beam (48.350)
Utah State's beam rotation was led by senior Jenna Eagles and freshman Sydney Jelen as they each recorded a 9.750 and finished in 12th place. Evans scored a 9.725 in her first collegiate beam performance and Brooks notched a 9.700. Aragon posted a 9.450 as the final scorer on the event.
Rotation Three – Floor (49.075)
Utah State headed to the floor for the third rotation and scored a 49.075. Graduate student Alivia Ostendorf along with senior Angel Stuart and Eagles tied for eighth with a trio of 9.850s. Freshman Nyla Morabito recorded a 9.800 and Brooks scored her season-high of 9.725.
Rotation Four – Vault (48.900)
The Aggies posted a 48.900 on vault to end the night. Ostendorf and Brooks recorded a pair of 9.850s to tie for seventh place on the event. Morabito placed 14th with a 9.800, while junior Payton Gatzlaff and Stuart tied for 15th with a pair of 9.725s.
