LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track and field student-athletes collected four Mountain West weekly honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Freshman Daniel Chase won MW Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Men's Freshman of the Week, junior Logan Hammer won MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week and freshman Abbie Scott won MW Women's Freshman of the Week.

Chase won the 55 meters and 200 meters at the Weber State Indoor Invitational on Saturday. In his second-ever collegiate race, the native of Woods Cross, Utah, tied the Stromberg Arena facility record with his time of 6.26, joining four-time Olympic silver medalist Frankie Fredericks in the record books. He also won the 200 meters in a career-best 22.06.

Hammer, who holds the USU outdoor pole vault record, made Aggie history by clearing 5.50 meters (18-0.5) at the BYU Indoor Invitational on Saturday, setting the Utah State indoor pole vault record. His mark bested the previous record of 5.45 meters (17-10.5), which was set by Lance White in 1994 and matched by Mark Calvin in 1998. The Nampa, Idaho, product's height also ranks as the third-best performance in the nation so far this season.

Scott finished in third place in the women's pole vault at the BYU Indoor Invitational with her clearance of 3.90 meters (12-9.5). The native of Rigby, Idaho, moved into a tie with Shae Bair for third all-time at Utah State in her second-ever collegiate meet. Her mark is also the second highest of any MW pole vaulter this season.

This is the first MW weekly honor for Chase and Scott, while Hammer collected his fifth career honor. Hammer is the first Utah State track and field athlete to earn five or more MW weekly accolades since Dillon Maggard earned nine from 2017-18.

This week, Utah State will travel north to Pocatello, Idaho, on Thursday and Friday, January 16-17, for the Snake River Open. This will be the first of three scheduled trips to Idaho State during the indoor season.
