Cross Country (2019): Helped lead Utah State to a 16th-place finish at the NCAA National Championships by placing 90th with a time of 32:01.7… Finished 35th with a time of 31:35.5 at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships… Placed 16th with a time of 23:32.2 at the Mountain West Championships, helping the Aggies capture their first-ever MW team title… Placed in the top-15 in Utah State’s first three meets… Named the MW Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after finishing first among the Aggies, and second overall, with a time of 21:50.34 at the USU-hosted Sagebrush Invitational… Led USU to a first-place team finish at the Sagebrush Invitational… Finished ninth (25:31.5) at the Montana State Cross Country Classic and 15th (23:48.7) at the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run, where the Aggies won the team title for the third consecutive year… Placed 193rd with a time of 25:23.4 at the Wisconsin-hosted Nuttycombe Invitational... Indoor: Placed seventh in the DMR with a career-best time of 10:14.31 at the Mountain West Indoor Championships… Finished eighth in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 8:32.03 at the Indoor Championships… Won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:32.48 at the New Mexico-hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational… Placed first in the DMR with a time of 10:14.31 at the Boise State-hosted Ed Jacoby Invitational… Recorded personal-best time of 14:32.04 in the 5,000 meters at the Washington Invitational… Earned academic all-MW and USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete honors.

Cross Country (2018): Placed 42nd with a time of 26:08.3 at the Mountain West Championships… Ran in four races with his best finish coming at the Utah State-hosted Sagebrush Invitational, where he captured first place with a time of 21:31.45… Finished 71st with a time of 25:27 at the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run… Placed 97th with a time of 25:02.3 at Pre-Nationals... Earned academic all-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honors.
Indoor: Ran season-best time of 14:39.31 in the 5,000 meters at the Washington Invitational… Placed second in the mile with a season-best time of 4:15.50 at the Boise State-hosted Bronco Invitational.
Outdoor: Placed ninth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:08.47 at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, where he also competed in the 5,000 meters… Recorded personal-best times of 14:32.35 in the 5,000 meters at the San Francisco State-hosted Mike Fanelli Track Classic and 30:27.92 in the 10,000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays… Earned academic all-MW, MW Scholar-Athlete and USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete honors.

Cross Country (2017): Finished 161st at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships with a time of 31:14.17… Placed 52nd at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships with a mark of 31:41.9… Finished 23rd at the Mountain West Championships with a time of 24:44.48… Competed in four other races with his best finish coming at the Utah State-hosted Sagebrush Invitational, where he placed sixth with a time of 21:27.537… Finished among USU’s top three runners three times during the year… Earned academic all-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete accolades.
Indoor: Placed 13th in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:14.56 at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, where he also finished 24th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:47.08… Ran season-best time of 8:35.70 in the 3,000 meters at the Boise State-hosted Ed Jacoby Invitational, placing second… Captured first place in the same event with a time of 8:39.91 at the New Mexico Team Challenge… Recorded season-best time of 14:45.21 in the 5,000 meters at the Boise State-hosted Bronco Challenge, finishing third.
Outdoor: Set career-best times of 3:59.51 in the 1,500 meters at the Utah/Weber State-hosted Spring Classic and 9:30.32 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the UC Irvine-hosted Spring Collegiate Classic… Best finish of the season was at the Utah State-hosted Mark Faldmo Invitational, where he placed second in the steeplechase with a time of 9:37.61… Earned academic all-MW, MW Scholar-Athlete and USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete accolades.

2015 (FR)
Cross Country (2014): Finished 88th with a time of 32:56 at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships... Placed 50th with a time of 25:22.00 at the Mountain West Championships... Competed in five meets during the season with his best finish coming at the Montana State Invitational, where he placed 26th with a time of 26:45... Earned academic all-MW honors.

HIGH SCHOOL: A four-time letterwinner in cross country and track & field at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah... Was captain of the Mustangs' cross country team... Recorded career-best times of 4:32 in the 1,600 meters and 9:42 in the 1,600 meters… Graduated with a 3.7 GPA.

PERSONAL: Full name is James Daniel Thorne... One of six children of Bruce and Ladean Thorne... Served a two-year LDS Church mission in Lyon, France… Majoring in international business.
