Biography

2001-02 SEASON (SR): Was one of the key reserves for the Aggies during his senior season, playing in all 31 games and playing the second-most minutes off the bench of anyone on the team (20.6)… Made three starts during the season… Averaged 3.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game… Was second on the team with 23 steals on the season, and third with 14 blocks… Scored a career-high 10 points against Cal Poly (2/2) as he went 1-of-5 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line, while also picking up six rebounds and two assists… Had three double-digit rebounding games on the season, including a career-high 11 rebounds against UC Riverside (2/16)… Finished the season shooting 49.3 percent (36-73) from the field and 76.6 percent (49-64) from the free throw line.
 
2000-01 SEASON (JR): Appeared in all 34 games and played at least 10 minutes in 30 of those contests… Tied his career-high with eight points on three separate occasions during the season against Weber State and UC Riverside and at Cal Poly… Scored in all but five games and had at least one rebound in every game… Had a season-high 24 minutes at Cal Poly going 4-of-5 from the field and grabbing four rebounds… Shot 56.3 percent from the floor and 69.5 percent from the free-throw line… Averaged 13.8 minutes per game off the bench which was the second-most among the reserves… Had 78 rebounds on the season, 39 offensive and 39 defensive.
 
1999-00 SEASON (SO): Played in all 34 games, but saw double-digit minutes in just six of USU’s first 14 games before playing at least 15 minutes in 19 consecutive contests… Averaged 14.3 minutes off the bench as a sophomore which was tops among all reserves… got more and more playing time as the season progressed… Averaged 19 minutes in the three Big West Tournament games and scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds… Was outstanding in the tournament championship game against New Mexico State with a career-high eight points and five rebounds in 18 minutes of play… 40 of his 93 rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor… Made his first career start for the Aggies in the second round of the Maui Invitational against Southern California… Made his first three-point attempt of his career versus UC Irvine.
 
1998-99 SEASON (RS): Played in two games before injuring his wrist… Underwent wrist surgery on Jan. 4 and was not able to practice with the team… Played seven minutes against Simon Fraser in the season opener and scored two points and then went scoreless in three minutes against Colorado-Colorado Springs in the third game of the year.
 
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played one season at Mesa Community College in 1996… Averaged 7.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, while shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and 62.9 percent from the free throw line… In 36 games, he also added 46 assists, 28 steals and 23 blocks… Team was the NJCAA Region I champion and finished fifth in the nation… Earned the NJCAA Tournament sportsmanship award.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a two-time all-conference selection as a junior and senior at Chandler High School… Team went to the state semifinals his senior year… Also participated in track and swimming.
 
PERSONAL: Born Feb. 25, 1975 in Provo, Utah… Has already received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish and is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Utah State… Father Mario (deceased) lettered in track at BYU… Son of Carol Ray… Married to the former Laurie Cranney… The couple has one son, Adam Mario… Signed with Utah State in the fall of 1998.
