Rachel Slocum concluded her third season as an assistant coach at Utah State in 2025. She was the primary coach on vault and assisted head coach Kristin White on floor.
During the 2025 season, Slocum helped led Utah State to its first-ever Mountain West Championship with a 196.100 to defeat regular season champion Boise State, along with San Jose State and Air Force. It was the program’s seventh conference title all-time and first since 2022. Graduate Brianna Brooks was named the Championship MVP after tying for first on bars with a season-high-tying 9.900 and tying for third on beam with a 9.850.
Utah State also advanced to NCAA Regionals as a team for the first time since 2022 and for the 28th time in program history, while five individuals qualified for the second round. Brooks shined on bars in the second round of NCAA Regionals as she tied for second with a season-high-tying 9.900, which is tied for the third-best bars score at an NCAA Regional meet in school history.
Utah State scored a 196.000 or better four times during the year, including a season-high 196.475 versus No. 7 California and Texas Woman’s at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, which is the ninth-highest away score in program history. USU also scored a 196.300 against Boise State, which is tied for the ninth-highest home score in program history, as the Aggies defeated the Broncos for the first time since 2022.
During the season, Utah State had 10 gymnasts combine to win 26 weekly Mountain West awards, both of which were the most by any program in the conference. USU also had 10 All-Mountain West honorees during the 2025 campaign, which were the most of any program in the conference.
In 2025, Slocum coached sophomore Nyla Morabito to first-team All-Mountain West honors on vault and floor, while sophomore Isabella Vater and freshman Olivia Orengo both earned second-team All-MW honors on floor, and freshman Kayle Medrano earned second-team All-MW honors on vault. Morabito posted a vault average of 9.807 during the 2025 campaign, which is the 11th-best in program history.
During the 2024 season, Morabito averaged a 9.807 on vault to rank 11th all-time in program history. Morabito also scored a career-high 9.925 on floor, which is tied for the 13th-best score in program history.
Following the 2024 season, Slocum was named the North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, along with her colleagues Robert Ladanyi and Daniel Barclay.
During the 2024 campaign, Slocum helped Utah State to a second-place finish at the inaugural Mountain West Championships with a season-high 196.500, which is tied for the fifth-highest home score in school history. It was also the second-highest score in a conference championship meet in school history. Highlighting USU's performance as the conference championship was senior Brianna Brooks winning the bars title with a season-high-tying 9.900 and placing second in the all-around with a 39.300.
Utah State also scored 196.275 at home against Southern Utah and against Boise State, Iowa State and Texas Woman's in a quad meet as both of those are tied for the 10th-best home score in program history.
In 2024, Slocum coached graduate senior Alivia Ostendorf to first-team All-Mountain West honors on vault as she finished the season with an average score of 9.792, which ranks 17th all-time in school history for a single season. Ostendorf also scored a career-high 9.925 on vault in a tri meet at Boise State and with Oregon State, which is tied for the fourth-best score on the event in program history.
Slocum also helped Brooks earn North Central Region Gymnast of the Year honors for the second straight season and second-team All-Mountain West honors on both bars and in the all-around.
During her first season at the helm, Slocum coached Brooks, who was named the North Central Region Gymnast of the Year, as she garnered first-team All-Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference accolades in the all-around.
Slocum also coached Ostendorf, who averaged 9.808 on vault, which is tied for ninth all-time in school history. Ostendorf, along with Ariel Toomey, also averaged 9.863 on floor, which is tied for sixth all-time in program history, Utah State averaged 49.003 as a team on the event, good enough for seventh-best in school history.
Slocum joined the Aggies after spending the previous two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Arizona State, where she worked with White, who was an assistant coach with the Sun Devils before becoming just the fifth head coach in Utah State history.
Slocum helped the Sun Devils finish ranked No. 22 in the nation and qualify for the 2022 NCAA Regional Championships in Norman, Oklahoma. The team scored a 196-plus in all but one meet, including three 197s. Arizona State recorded five conference wins to tie for the Pac-12 regular-season title – the first in program history. It was also the most conference wins in a single season in 2001.

In her first season at ASU, Slocum helped guide the Sun Devils to their most successful season in 15 years in 2021, wrapping up the year ranked No. 9 on Road to Nationals, the best finish since 2006. The team ended the season with an National Qualifying Score of 197.088.
Slocum was a four-time All-American at Florida, competing from 2017-18 and graduating cum laude with a degree in health education and behavior.
While with the Gators, Slocum primarily competed on vault and floor, earning All-America second-team honors on vault at both the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Championships. On vault, she also earned NACGC All-America first-team regular-season recognition in 2017 and made the second team in 2018.
In both of her seasons at Florida, Slocum was an all-SEC gymnast, and in 2018 she also made the SEC Community Service Team. She won NCAA regional titles on floor (shared) and vault in 2018, as well as a share of the vault title in 2017.
Prior to Florida, Slocum spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Eastern Michigan, earning MAC Specialist of the Year honors as a sophomore. That season, she made the all-MAC and all-Tournament teams, and qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual on floor after earning the regional title, the second Eagle in program history to do so.
The native of Holly Springs, North Carolina, also shined in the classroom as she made the 2018 SEC Academic Honor Roll, the 2017 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll and was an NACGC Scholastic Academic All-American in 2015 and 2018. At Eastern Michigan, she earned academic All-MAC and Distinguished Scholar Student-Athlete honors, as well as earning two MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week nods.
