Ashley Cardozo enters her second year on staff as an assistant coach at Utah State in the 2024 season. Cardozo originally joined the staff as the team's director of operations in March of 2023, and was then promoted to assistant coach in July of 2023.Â
In her first season on staff in 2023, Cardozo helped guide the Aggies to one of the best seasons in program history as USU captured the program's first ever Mountain West Tournament championship and third ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Utah State coaching staff was named the United Soccer Coaches Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the team to a 14-8-1 record and a 9-2 mark in conference play. This marked the most conference wins in program history, and was the second most overall wins in program history. Four different USU players earned all-conference accolades, including first-team honors by defender Kelsey Kaufusi and midfielder Kaylie Chambers and second-team honors by defender Kylie Olsen and goalkeeper Diera Walton. Additionally, Kaufusi was named the MW Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region Second Team. She then became the first player in program history to be selected in the NWSL Draft, as she was taken in the second round by the Portland Thorns.Â
One of the most accomplished and decorated soccer players in Utah State history, Cardozo was a member of the Aggie roster from 2017-21. She is the program's all-time leader in assists (32), shots on goal (121) and game-winning goals (13). Cardozo also owns the single-season record at USU for assists (11, 2021) and game-winning goals (5, 2017).
Cardozo earned a bevy of awards during her playing career, being named first-team all-Mountain West in 2017 and 2021, second-team all-Mountain West in 2018 and 2019, first-team United Soccer Coaches all-Pacific Region in 2021 and second team all-Pacific Region in 2017. In October of 2023, she was named to the Mountain West 25th Season Soccer Team, which honored 25 of the greatest players in conference history. Cardozo graduated from USU in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in international business.
