With the win, USU moved into sole possession of second-place in the Big West Conference with a 5-1 league mark to go along with its 8-4 overall record. UOP dropped to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference with the loss.
"We didn't win this match tonight, we won it a couple of weeks ago in practice," said USU head coach Burt Fuller. "We have built a certain level of play in practice and we are starting to get a good understanding of how to play together and we are seeing that on the court during our matches.
" I am really happy for our seniors, because they have never experienced a win over Pacific. This victory will help us throughout the season."
After splitting the first four games of the match, Utah State opened game five with a 4-0 run before Pacific rallied to tie the game at six. Both teams exchanged the next five points knotting the game at 11 before USU finished the contest with a another 4-0 run. Utah State had chances to win both the second and fourth games, but let a five-point advantage slip away in game two and a four-point advantage slip away in game four.
