SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Two members of the Utah State women's tennis team advanced to the third round of play in the U of U invitational on Thursday.

Caroline Pollock defeated SUU's Kelly Patterson 6-1, 6-3, in the first round then went on to beat Tara Rosenzweig of WSU 6-4, 6-3. Sarah Lowe was able to beat Utah's Alison Hansen in the second round,6-4, 6-4, after a first round bye. Lowe and Pollock teamed up in doubles play to beat SUU's Gleason and Gardner 8-2 and moved on to the second round.

Jocee Mason defeated Hilary Doyle of Utah 7-6, 6-0, before being beaten by Weber State's Therina Steenkamp, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. In the second round, Haley Hawkins was shut out by Utah's Cassie Kasteler 6-0, 6-0, after beating Southern Utah's Crystal Holt 6-2, 6-1. Richelle Ferguson and Tracy Bertagna also posted first round victories in singles play before being eliminated in the second round.

In doubles play Hawkins/Larsen beat Durrant/Larkin from SUU 8-5, to advance to the second round. The third round of singles play and the second round of doubles continue on Friday along with play in the consolation bracket.
