SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - USU Aggies Amy Thatcher and Carolyn Larson both advanced through three rounds of consolation play to face each other in the finals of the University of Utah Invitational.

In the second round Thatcher beat Kendra Gleason of SUU 6-3, 6-0, then beat WSU's Chelsea Drews, 6-2, 7-5 in the third round. In the fourth, she defeated Ashlee Gardner from SUU 6-4, 6-2.

Larson won her match against Kelly Patterson of SUU 7-5, 6-2, before beating another SUU player, Andee Durrant, 6-3, 6-0, in the third round. Larson pulled of a difficult victory against teammate Amelia Martinez 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, in the semifinals.

On Friday, Caroline Pollock defeated Utah's Cassie Kasteler 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, before losing to top seed Therina Steenkamp. Sarah Lowe was alsoeliminated by Dana Delancey on Friday 6-2, 6-2.

After a victory over Utah's team Hansen/Esrock in doubles play, Lowe/Pollock were defeated 8-4, in the semifinal round by Ronnberg/Kotoglou of Utah.

Thatcher and Larson will square off in the consolation finals on Sunday.
