Utah State will play its first tournament of the spring when the Aggies head to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Grand Canyon Tournament, April 9-10. The tournament will be the first of four for USU this spring, with all four coming in the month of April.
This past fall, Kevin Peterson and Kevin Blotter led the Aggies with 75.82 and 76.19 scoring averages respectively. Peterson was USU's top finisher at the Falcon Invitational, while Blotter led the Aggies at the other three events.
Those two seniors, as well as freshman Nick Summers, were the only three Aggies to play in each of USU's four fall tournaments. Summers posted a 78.27 scoring average.

Utah State's gymnastics team will compete in the North Central Regional Championships Sat., April 7 in Salt Lake City. The Utah-hosted meet will begin at 6 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Teams vying for a trip to the 2001 NCAA national championships include (#5) Utah, (#8) Iowa State, (#17) West Virginia, (#24) Denver, (#30) Utah State, and (#43) Air Force.
Utah enters the meet as the number one seed with a RQS of 197.640 and an overall record of 13-1-1. The Utes scored a school-record 197.925 against BYU in their last regular season meet of the year. UU holds a 73-3 all-time advantage over the Aggies. Utah defeated USU earlier this season at the Huntsman Center (197.125-194.325). With a 196.650 RQS Iowa State will be the No. 2 seed at the regional meet. Utah State is a perfect 2-0 all-time against the Cyclones. The two teams last meet in 1999 at the Region 2 Championships in Logan. USU outscored ISU 194.575-194.175. 17th-ranked West Virginia is 21-3 in 2001 with an RQS of 195.900. No. 3 seed WVU holds a slim 3-2 series lead over the Aggies, including a 3-1 mark at a neutral site. Utah State last competed against the Mountaineers at the 2000 regional meet. West Virginia posted a 195.475 to USU's 192.950. Denver will be seeded fourth will an RQS of 195.385. The Pioneers are 13-8 overall and currently ranked 24th in the nation. Utah State holds a 19-10 all-time advantage over DU, including a 10-1 record at a neutral site. Denver defeated the Aggies 195.900-194.900 in Denver earlier this season. Air Force enters the regional meet as the No. 6 seed with an RQS of 194.165. The Aggies are a perfect 5-0 against AFA. The two teams have not meet since the 1994 season.

Utah State's softball team is on the road for four games this week as it heads down to Salt Lake City to take on in-state rival Utah Wed., April 4 for a single-game beginning at 3 p.m. USU will then play Pacific Sat.-Sun., April 7-8 in a three-game conference series. The two teams will play a double-header at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then return for a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
(#33) Utah is 21-15-1 this season and 3-0-1 in Mountain West conference action. The Utes are hitting .277 as a team and are led by Lyndsey Trevis and Melissa Stahnke who are batting .410 and .348, respectively. Stahnke currently leads the team in homeruns (11) and doubles (7), and owns the second most RBI on the team (33). Utah's pitching staff is led by Kristin Arbogast who is 15-10 on the year with a 2.41 ERA. Arbogast has pitched six shutouts and recorded three saves so far this season. UU leads the all-time series with USU 71-52. Earlier this year Utah shut out the Aggies 4-0 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.
Ranked third in the Big West with a 5-1 conference record, Pacific is 31-6 overall and has only lost two of its last 31 games. The Tigers are batting .271 as a team behind four players all hitting .340 or better. Pacific's pitching staff of Jennifer Dacre and Cindy Ball have combined for 16 shutouts and an ERA of 1.28 in their 37 games on the mound. USU's all-times series with the Tigers is currently tied at 22 games apiece. Last year Utah State snagged one win in the three-game conference series (3-1) in Logan, while Pacific went home with two victories (5-0, 11-0).
Over the weekend Utah State dropped all-three games in its home-opener against Long Beach State. Freshman OF Casey Smith was a bright spot for the Aggies as she was 4-of-10 on the weekend with a double. Smith is now tied with Eva DeJarnette with a team-high four doubles on the year.

USU's men's tennis team will return to the courts on Tuesday, April 3, playing at Weber State. It will be the first match for the Aggie men since March 16. After that contest, USU will host two home matches against Idaho State on April 11 and Montana on April 13 before the Big West Championships at Ojai, Calif., April 24-29.
Dan Baird owns a 7-5 mark playing at the number six singles spot this spring, while number one player Andy Madersbacher and number five player Tad Hinze are both 5-7 this spring.

After splitting a pair of matches last week, Utah State's women's tennis team will host its final home match of the year against Idaho State on Wednesday, April 4 at 2 p.m. before heading to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Southern Utah Invitational, April 5-8. USU will close the regular season on April 10 at Weber State before playing the Big West Championships at Ojai, Calif. April 24-29.
The Aggies are 4-7 on the year after winning two of their last four matches overall. Number one single player Sarah Lowe became the first USU player to reach double-figure win totals this season as she defeated Kendra Gleason of Southern Utah 6-1, 6-0 on Saturday to improve to 10-8.
In spring matches, Lowe owns a 5-6 mark to tie Tracy Bertagna for the team's best individual marks, while Amelia Martinez is 4-6. Wednesday's matchup with Idaho State will be the second between the two schools this year as USU won a narrow 4-3 match at Pocatello back in January.
