SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
Utah State's women's tennis team lost to in-state rival Utah Friday night 5-2. USU managed to win two out of six singles matches but were shut out in doubles play, losing all three matches to the Utes in its season opener.
In the No. 1 match USU co-captain Sarah Lowe defeated Utah's Ellen Svensson 7-5, 6-4, while freshman Carolyn Larson defeated Cassie Kasteler 6-2, 6-3.
"Tonight was a good match," Head coach Chris Wright said. "We just did not play up to what we were capable of. We gave it our all, but came up a little bit short."
USU's next match is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19 against Portland State at the Sports Academy in Logan at 2 p.m.
