LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's tennis team battled Air Force all the way down to the final match before losing to the Falcons 4-3 Monday at the Sports Academy in Logan. The Aggies won three out of six singles matches but lost all three doubles matches which led to their defeat. The Aggies fell to 1-2 on the season.

In singles play, Jocee Bergeson defeated Heather Shelby 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, Caroline Pollock beat Laura Nigro 6-1, 7-5, and Haley Hawkins posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win against Kristen Jones. Tied at 3, the final match plotted Utah State's Carolyn Larsen against Air Force's Kelli O'Bryant. After winning the first set, Larsen lost the next two to O'Bryant and the Falcons escaped with a 4-3 victory.

"Carolyn [Larsen] was very gutsy out there," head coach Chris Wright said. "She played a very good match. Her heart was in there, her desire was in there. She fought off five or six match points there at the end and I can't fault the effort... I was proud of the effort of the whole team tonight."

USU's next match is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23 against Idaho State at Pocatello, Idaho at 2 p.m.
