POCATELLO, Idaho - Utah State's Carolyn Larsen defeated Melanie Kranz in three sets to break a 3-3 tie and hand Idaho State its first loss of the season. The Aggies evened their record at 2-2 on the season with the 4-3 road win. Utah State won four out of six singles matches to snag the victory away from the Bengals.

Caroline Pollock, Shelly Ferguson and Haley Hawkins all were victorious in singles play for the Aggies. Pollock topped Idaho State's Carol Tolsma 6-1, 6-1, Ferguson defeated Hayli Scott 6-2, 6-3, while Hawkins posted a 6-2, 6-0 against Lauren Dial. Because the Aggies were swept in the three doubles matches, all eyes were on the No. 5 match between Larsen and Kranz. Larsen, for the second straight time found herself in the deciding match, but this time was victorious 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and the Aggies escaped with the one point victory.

"Carolyn [Larsen] was in the exact same situation she was in against Air Force on Monday," assistant coach Jevin West said. "This time she made some adjustments and pulled it off. It was great for her confidence and for the team's confidence as well. She was more consistent and it was cool to see her get the win."

After playing four matches in six days, the Aggies will go two weeks without a match. They will resume their normal practice schedule and will play their next match on Friday, Feb. 8 at Montana State.
