Junior tennis player Caroline Pollock has been named Utah State Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Pollock won both her singles and double matches last week at Montana State. Pollock defeated MSU's Liz Lowrance in singles play 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. Pollock also won her doubles match with teammate Sarah Lowe 8-4.
The Aggies return to action at Cal Poly Feb. 23.

Basketball-Desmond Penigar (Upland, Calif.) . . . Junior forward Desmond Penigar led Utah State to its first road sweep of the season in Big West Conference play defeating Long Beach State and UC Irvine. Against the 49ers, Penigar recorded his fourth double-double of the season (all league play) with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a career-high three blocks, two of which came in the final 1:06 of the game to preserve the Aggie win. For the week, Penigar averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds.
Gymnastics-Kirra Seeley (Kaysville, Utah). . . Senior Kirra Seeley posted season-highs last Wednesday on the bars (9.825), beam (9.800) and floor (9.650) against Brigham Young. She tied teammate Katie Rutherford for second on bars and was second among USU's competitors on beam, helping the Aggies to their best team score on beam (48.800) and second-best score on floor (48.150) this season.
Softball-Breanne Smith (Bluffdale, Utah) . . . Breanne Smith hit .333 (4-12) last weekend at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament hosted by Arizona State. She accounted for two of USU's three hits against UCLA, and was 1-2 with a run scored and one batted in against No. 8 Arizona State. Her first triple of the season came in the Aggies' first game, as she was 1-2 with an RBI and a walk against New Mexico State.
Men's Tennis-Clayton Thomas (Sandy, Utah) . . . Senior Clayton Thomas won in both singles and doubles play at Montana State last week. Thomas defeated Montana's Devlin 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 and won his doubles match 9-8 with teammate Andreas Madesbacher.
Men's Track-Justin Wickard (Scottsbluff, Neb.) . . . Freshman Justin Wickard helped the Aggies to a 4-1 finish at the Idaho State Quintuple Dual Meet last weekend. Wickard finished first in the 55 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 7.47 and took a second-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 23-3.5.
Women's Track-Candice Workman (West Point, Utah). . . Sophomore Candice Workman won the shot put at last weekend's Idaho State Quintuple Dual Meet with a mark of 48-9.5. Workman was the only Aggie on the women's side to take home a first-place finish.
