Senior pole vaulter Shae Bair has been named Utah State Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Bair set a new school pole vault record at last weekend's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track Championships. Her mark of 12-9.5 beat her previous school record of 12-7.5, which she set at the NCAA Championships in 1999.
Both the men's and women's teams finished seventh at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
Bair, along with teammates Kristi Connors, Brett Guymon, Maurice Jenkins and Justin Wickard, will compete at Last Chance Meets March 1-2.

Basketball-Desmond Penigar (Upland, Calif.) . . . Desmond Penigar led Utah State to a home win over Idaho as the junior came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds. Penigar shot 61.5 percent from the field in the game. It was the 23rd time on the season that he has scored in double-figures and the seventh time he has scored at least 20 points in a game.
Gymnastics-Nicole Kilpatrick (Ringwood, N. J.). . . Nicole Kilpatrick posted season-best scores in the all-around (38.875) and vault (9.750) Friday at Brigham Young in a meet with BYU and Boise State. She tied for third place among the all-arounders. Kilpatrick posted 9.75s on beam and floor, as well as a 9.65 on bars.
Softball-Breanne Smith (Bluffdale, Utah) . . . Breanne Smith was 2-3 with three bases on balls in USU's doubleheader at Southern Utah last Thursday. She hit her first home run of the season, drove in two and scored two runs.
Men's Tennis-Andreas Madersbacher (Kramsach, Austria) . . . Senior Andreas Madersbacher won his match singles match 6-4, 6-3 against Cal Poly Saturday. Madersbacher was the only Aggie to win a match last week as USU lost to Cal Poly (1-6), Santa Barbara (0-7) and Pacific (0-7).
Men's Track-Brett Guymon (Huntington, Utah) . . . Senior runner Brett Guymon placed fourth in the 400-meter at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track Championships last weekend. His time of 47.08 was a career-best and fourth place in USU history.
