Final Stats

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State gymnastics defeated Boise State, 193.400-193.350, tonight in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, moving the season series to 2-1 in BSU's favor. The Aggies are now 4-7 on the season, while Boise State's record now stands at 3-9.

"We've got a team that's trying awfully hard," said USU head coach Ray Corn. "We certainly had it going in the first two events, and it's one of the best performances we've had on vault and bars in a while."

USU led Boise State by 1.75 after the third rotation, but the Broncos posted a 49.500 on beam, while USU had a 47.800 on floor. BSU's Marie Lucas recorded a 10.000 on beam, while Jamie Johns scored a 9.950 and Breanne Holmes scored a 9.900.

"We have finally learned how to toughen up and get through a meet and win one," Corn said. "I hope this is our upswing right now. Vault and the uneven bars were really bright spots."

The Aggies posted team scores of 48.825 on vault and 48.925 on bars, respectively their best and second-best team performances on those events. Sophomore Kyla Mattioli won vault with a 9.850, while freshman Jessica Rands scored a 9.825, her collegiate best in just her third meet. Freshman Katie Rutherford posted a 9.850 on bars and a 9.900 on beam, setting two new career highs and earning gymnast of the meet honors. Senior Stephanie Gordon scored a 9.725 on floor, leading the Aggies. USU had to count two falls on beam and one on floor.

USU returns to action Saturday at No. 19 Missouri at 6 p.m. No. 14 Denver and No. 24 Ohio State will also be at that meet.
