Freshman sprinter Justin Wickard has been named Utah State's Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Wickard led the Aggie track team at the Mountain State Games at Idaho State last weekend. He won the long jump (23-2), 55-meter dash (6.46), and the 55-meter hurdles (7.57). Wickard had the best day of any athlete at the meet Saturday.
The Aggies will compete Feb. 9 at the Idaho State Quadrangular in Pocatello, Idaho.

Basketball-Tony Brown (Hyrum, Utah) . . . Tony Brown led Utah State to a pair of home wins over UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly last weekend. Against the Gauchos, Brown tied his career-high with 27 points to go along with seven assists, four steals, two rebounds and no turnovers. Against Cal Poly, Brown just missed his second double-double of the season with 12 points and nine assists to go along with four rebounds and three steals. For the week, Brown averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. He also committed just one turnover in 66 minutes of action.
Gymnastics-Jessenia Abrego (Las Vegas, Nev.). . . Friday at Boise State, Utah State senior Jessenia Abrego won the all-around with a career-high 39.175, marking just the second time she's competed in the all-around in her career. Abrego finished in the top three in beam (9.775), vault (9.825) and floor (9.825). Her all-around score ties for 18th in USU history, while her vault score ties for the eighth-best in school history and is the eighth time she's recorded a 9.825 in the event.
Women's Track-Candice Workman (West Point, Utah). . . Sophomore Candice Workman won the weight throw with a mark of 50-2.5. Her mark put her in sixth place in USU history. Workman also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 46-5.75.
