Six members of the Utah State track team traveled to Texas A&M to compete in a special meet for multi-eventers. Joel Johnson, Jake Johnson, Brad Bair and Dan Messick competed in the men's decathlon. Amber Bagby and Dayna Barrett competed in the women's heptathlon.
Jake Johnson finished eighth in the men's silver division with a score of 6075. Johnson finished first in the pole vault part of the competition with a height of 4.60 meters.
Brad Bair scored 5038 points in the first seven events of the silver division, but dropped out of the competition after the discus. Bair finished first in the long jump (6.94 meters) and in the shot put (13.65 meters). He also had a second place finish in the hundred meter dash with a time of 10.88.
Joel Johnson was the only Aggie competing in the gold division. He finished in the top five in three events, scoring 5983 points, but did not compete in the last event after no-heighting in the pole vault.
In the women's heptathlon bronze division, Amber Bagby finished eighth (4432) and Dayna Barrett finished 15th with a score of 4163. Bagby's top finishes were sixth in the javelin (33.68 meters) and eighth in the 800-meter (2:31.56). Barrett finished third in javelin (35.84 meters) and sixth in shot put (10.66 meters).
Aggie men's and women's track teams next compete at the UC Davis Invitational April 6.
