Utah State and Washington State had a conference-best 23 track student-athletes named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic team it was announced this week. Among USU's selections were 14 female and nine male athletes.
The MPSF is made up of schools from the Big West, Pac-10, Mountain West, West Coast and Western Athletic Conferences. To be named to the team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year, and compete in 50 percent of the team's meets.
Among USU's selections were senior Kristi Connors, who finished second in the 400-meters at the conference championships last month, senior Maurice Jenkins, who was third in the league pole vault and senior Brett Guymon, who was fourth in the 400-meters.
Melanie McClellan and Sharee Hatch posted the top grade-point averages for USU's women with 3.97 and 3.94 GPAs respectively, while Joel Johnson owns a men's team-best 3.96 GPA.
Utah State has led the league in all-conference academic selections in each of the two seasons that the team has been named. In all seven Aggie women are repeat selections while five Aggie men were named in each of the last two years.
