LOGAN, Utah -
Senior runner Dwayne Foster, from Homestead, Fla., has been named Utah State University's Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Dwayne Foster set a new school record in the 100-meter this weekend at Weber State with a time of 10.1. The Aggie men finished the meet in second place behind Weber State.
The Aggie track and field team hosts its only home meet of the outdoor season Saturday with field events beginning at 9 a.m.
Nominees from other sports:
Golf-Nate Blotter (Hyrum, Utah)... Nate Blotter led the Aggies last week at the Grand Canyon Tournament. He scored a three-round 220 (72-76-72) to finish the tournament tied for 25th place. The Aggies finished the tournament tied for 14th place.
Softball-Breanne Smith (Bluffdale, Utah)... Breanne Smith hit .333 (5-15) in USU's seven games last week, and collected six walks and two sacrifices. She struck out just twice. Smith posted her fifth double and second triple of the season, and now leads the team in runs batted in with 14. Her current four-game hitting streak is her second longest of the season, as she had a six-game streak March 14-17.
Men's Tennis-Jason Trask (St. George, Utah)... Sophomore Jason Trask improved his team-best singles individual record to 13-6, defeating Idaho State's Butch Stravidis 6-1, 6-0. Trask also won his doubles match, teamed with Steve Peterson, 9-7.
Women's Tennis-Carolyn Larsen (Logan, Utah)... Freshman Carolyn Larsen was 1-2 at No. 5 singles with a victory over Denver's Maru Altamirono, 6-4, 6-4. Larsen also was 1-2 at No. 2 doubles with a 8-3 victory, teamed with Haley Hawkins. Larsen is tied with a team-best singles record of 7-6.
Women's Track-Kristin Coombs (Layton, Utah)... Sophomore distance runner Kristin Coombs was the only Aggie on the women's side to bring home a title from Weber State. Her finish in the 1,500-meter (4:39.37) added her to the record books in 10th place. The Aggies finished the meet in fourth place.
