LOGAN, Utah -
Sophomore runner Kristin Coombs has been named Utah State University's Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Coombs, a sophomore from Layton, Utah, finished first in the 1,500-meter run last weekend at the Outback Invite. Her time (4:37.46) was the teams second-best time of the season.
The Aggies will continue their season at the Clarence Robison Invite in Provo, Utah May 3-4.
Nominees from other sports:
Golf-Nate Blotter (Hyrum, Utah)... Nate Blotter led the Aggies at last weekend's Big West Championships tying for 24th place with a three-round score of 227(73-80-74). The Aggies finished the tournament in ninth place.
Softball-Marcie Neff (Corinne, Utah)... Marcie Neff led the Aggies last weekend in their games at UC Santa Barbara, hitting .400 (4-10). She scored three runs and drove in one. She also posted her third stolen base of the season.
Men's Tennis-Jason Trask (St. George, Utah)... Sophomore Jason Trask had the Aggies' lone victory (8-2), teamed with Steve Peterson at number three doubles against Pacific in the Big West Tournament last week. The Aggies ended their season 7-13.
Women's Tennis-Sarah Lowe (Ogden, Utah)... Senior Sarah Lowe won her singles match 6-4, 6-4 and lost her doubles match 8-6 against Cal State Fullerton at last week's Big West Tournament. The Aggies beat Cal State Fullerton 5-2 to advance to the next round where they were defeated by UC Irvine 5-0.
Men's Track-Brett Guymon (Huntington, Utah)... Senior Brett Guymon won the men's 400-meter hurdles (51.05) for the fourth straight time at last weekend's Outback Invitational. Guymon has had a first place finish in each of the five outdoor track meets this year.
