DAVIS, Calif. - Utah State's men's team took first place at the University of California Davis Invitational in Davis, Calif., claiming nine individual titles. The women's team finished third with three individual titles.

In the 1500-meter, the men had a top-three sweep, with Dave Kunnas winning, Mike Nielson in second, and Mitch Zundel in third. The men's relay teams won both the 4x100-meter (41.64) and the 4x400-meter (3:15.96).

Junior Josh Sides won individual titles in the shot put (57'00.25") and the hammer (188'05.00"). His hammer throw was a personal best and seventh best in USU history. Sides also finished fourth in the discus (150'02.00").

Freshman Justin Wickard took first in the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 14.18 was a personal best and fourth best in school history. Wickard finished fourth in the 100-meter (11.08).

In the men's 100-meter, Dwayne Foster took first place with a season best time 10.64. Brett Guymon won an individual title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.22.

In the women's 200-meter, Sandra Reategui (24.74) edged out teammate Kristi Connors (25.04) to win the individual title. In the 400-meter, Connors returned the favor, taking first and beating Reategui by nearly a second.

The Aggie women also fared well in the relays, winning the 4x100-meter (47.64) and finishing third in the 4x400-meter (3:50.55). The women thowers were hampered by injuries and were unable to compete in any events.

Head coach Gregg Gensel said he was pleased with the way both teams competed. "One of the things we wanted to accomplish is just get better every meet," he said. "The fact that a lot of people are getting better is great.

"The thing that I really like about these athletes is that when things didn't go well, they kept competing," said Gensel. "That's why we won this meet.""

The Aggies are in action again April 13 at the Weber State Invitational in Ogden, Utah.
