LOGAN, Utah -
Junior thrower Josh Sides has been named Utah State's Athlete of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. The award is voted on by a local media panel.
Sides won individual titles in the shot put (57-0.25) and the hammer (188-5) at UC Davis last weekend. His hammer throw was a personal best and seventh best in USU history. He also finished fourth in the discus (150-2).
The Aggie track and field team travels to Weber State Saturday.

Gymnastics-Stephanie Gordon (Spanish Fork, Utah)... Stephanie Gordon posted two season-highs at the NCAA North Central Region gymnastics competition Saturday in Denver, Colo. Gordon's 9.800 on floor was USU's best score, while her 9.700 was the second-best on the team. The Aggies took sixth at the regional meet.
Softball-Heather Curtis (Reno, Nev.)... Heather Curtis was 3-8 last weekend in the softball team's three-game series against No. 18 Pacific. Curtis posted a double and a walk. She also had a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI. USU was 0-3 in its Big West series.
Women's Track-Kristi Connors (Meridian, Idaho)... Senior sprinter Kristi Connors won the 400-meter (54.86) last weekend at UC Davis. Connors also took second place in the 200-meter with a time of 25.04.
