Utah State's Brett Guymon and Joel Johnson will represent the Aggies at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place at Baton Rouge, La., May 29-June 1.

Guymon, a senior from Huntington, Utah, enters the meet with the nation's fourth-fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles at 49.57. It is Guymon's third straight trip to the NCAA in this event as he finished 10th in this event last year and 16th as a sophomore.

He is a five-time Big West Conference individual champion having won three straight 400-meter hurdles titles to go along with back-to-back 110-meter hurdles championships. This year he was named the Big West Conference Track Athlete of the Year.

Johnson, a junior from Brigham City, Utah, owns the nation's seventh-best decathlon score with 7,486 points. Last year he finished 16th at the NCAA Championships in this event.

Guymon will participate in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries on Wednesday night. The finals are scheduled for Friday evening. The first day of the decathlon for Johnson will take place on Friday, May 31 with the long jump, shot put, high jump, 100 and 400 meters. The event will conclude on Saturday with the discus, pole vault, javelin, 110-meter hurdles and the 1,500-meter run.

Utah State is coming off its sixth Big West Conference Championship in the last nine years and in 2001 posted its best NCAA Outdoor Track finish in 24 years. The Aggies, with two individual runner-up finishes, tied for 18th at the national meet a year ago.

At that meet, James Parker was the runner-up in the hammer, while Dave Hoffman placed second in the high jump.
