LOGAN, Utah - Michelle Haws and Chanel Blaquiere tallied their first goals of the year as Utah State soccer (7-4, 1-0) opened Big West Conference play with a 3-0 win against Cal State Northridge (2-5-3, 0-1) Friday. With the win, this year's team becomes the first to win three straight matches.

"It was nice to pick up a conference win in our first league game," said head coach Heather Cairns. " We are a team of streaks and right now we hope to continue winning with the momentum we have."

Amber Tracy started the scoring for the Aggies in the first half as she took a cross from Nicole Feuz eight yards out; beating the Matadors Jen Jasper lower left side. Tracy is now tied with Feuz for the team lead with three goals on the season. Feuz's assist gives her two on the season. She has notched at least one point in the last three Aggie victories.

USU's defense did its part in giving the Aggies the 1-0 advantage at the break as they didn't allow a shot in the first half. USU out shot CSN in the first half, 13-0.

Haws got the scoring going again for the Aggies in the 58th minute as she punched in a cross from Sierra Smith. Haws' goal and Smith's assist were their first of the year. Blaquiere put the game out of reach in the 72nd minute as she was set up by a great combination play from Ally Clegg and Tracy.

USU's Megan Mills also recorded her sixth shutout of the season. She currently owns a goals-against average of 0.54. USU recorded 21 shots in the match. The only other twenty-shot match was against Nevada as USU recorded 22. USU's Lacy Gustaveson was also back in action for the Aggies after missing the last six games with a fractured wrist.

The Aggies are back in action on Sunday at noon against Pacific.
