LOGAN, Utah - Senior Cardell Butler had 19 points, while sophomore Nate Harris added a career-high 15 points off the bench to lead Utah State to a convincing 67-42 win over Jackson State Thursday night in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Butler scored nine of Utah State's first 12 points in the game as the Aggies jumped out to an early 12-4 lead. USU extended to a 19-point advantage at 30-11 before Jackson State closed the half on a 7-2 run to make the score 32-18 at the break.
The Tigers cut the lead to 10 early in the second half but could get no closer as Utah State slowly built the lead up 28 points at 67-39 with just over a minute remaining.
Utah State outrebounded Jackson State by a 39-29 margin, while the Tigers had 20 turnovers compared to the Aggies' 14. Jackson State also struggled from the field, making just 15 of 48 attempts.
Butler came into the game ranked 10th in the Big West Conference in scoring, with an average of 13 points per game. It was Butler's fourth game of the year in which he's scored double figures.
Jackson State's top scorer, K.C. Cavette, had 12 points.
Utah State, who improved to 5-1 on the season with the win hosts in-state rival Brigham Young on Tues, Dec. 23, while Jackson State (2-4) will face the University of Oklahoma in Norman on Sat., Dec. 20.
