PROVO, Utah - Despite three 39.00-plus all-around performances, Utah State gymnastics finished fourth to Southern Utah, Brigham Young and Central Michigan here Friday. Aggie freshmen Jessica Parenti (39.250) and Meagan Nelson (39.20) finished second and third in the all-around for the Aggies.

Southern Utah won the meet with a team score 195.875, BYU was second (195.425) and Central Michigan finished third (195.250). USU was fourth with a team score of 195.225, extending the Aggies' losing streak in Provo to 15 years.

"Southern Utah basically had a perfect meet, Central Michigan struggled on beam, BYU struggled and we spotted the field too many points to start the meet," said USU head coach Ray Corn. "We improve our RQS (regional qualifying score) quite a bit, since we replace a 192.050. Overall, Meagan (Nelson), Nicole (Kilpatrick) and Jessica (Parenti) had a fantastic meet."

In the first rotation USU scored 48.525 on bars, ending its streak of five straight meets with a team score of 49.00 or better in the event. Nelson set a career high with a 9.90 on the event.

The Aggies were in second place following the first rotation, but fell to fourth after the second, as they posted a 48.525 on beam. Nelson again was USU's top scorer on beam (9.825). In the third rotation, BYU's Kari Lords scored 10.0 on beam, a school record.

After setting a school record on floor Feb. 28 against Ohio State, USU scored 49.450, the second-best score in USU history. Seniors Kilpatrick and Allison Rosenthal posted career bests of 9.95 and 9.90, respectively. The Aggies didn't count a score lower than 9.85 on the event.

With a team score of 146.50, USU trailed Southern Utah by 0.225 points entering the final rotation, while Central Michigan was third (145.975) and BYU was fourth (145.825). In the final rotation of the night, BYU posted another 10.0 for the Cougars with Brogan Jacobsen's floor score.

The Aggies had their third-best score of the season on vault, 48.825, led by Kilpatrick's 9.90, which tied her season high on the event.

The Aggies return home to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Monday, March 10 at 7 p.m., when they face Central Michigan and Southern Utah for the second time in three days. Autograph night follows the meet.
