UTAH STATE TRACK AND FIELD WINS NINE AT MARK FALDMO INVITATIONAL

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Kelli Burton and Justin Wickard both had two victories as they led the Aggies in USU's only home meet of the season. Burton, a freshman, won the shot put (50-05.25) and the discus (11-09.00) for the second straight week. Burton also placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 161-09.00. "That is why we recruited her," said head coach Gregg Gensel. "We knew she was a great athlete and she is really working hard to make herself better." All three distances were good enough to mover her up USU's top-10 list in each event. Wickard won both the 110-meter hurdles (14.23) and the long jump (22-11.75). He also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.41. "I was really proud of Justin Wickard," said Gensel. "He stretched himself today and did very well."

Also winning for the Aggie women was Christi Howell in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:00.61. Teammates Tiffany Strickland (18:04.31) and Lida Clapier (18:16.56) finished right behind Howell in second and third respectively. Overall the Aggie women had 11 top-three finishers.

Winning for the men were throwers Josh Sides (shot put, 59-11.00), Neil Warr (javelin, 218-03.00) and Ryan Bruhn (hammer, 203-02.00) and Joel Johnson in the pole vault with a height of 16-00.75. Sides and Bruhn both had three top-10 finishes. Warr has now won the javelin in three of the four meets he has competed in this season, finishing second in the other. Aggies Joel Johnson (14.58) and Dustin Vetica (14.75) finished second and third respectively right behind Wickard in the 110-meter hurdles. Wickard and Vetica both qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 400-meter hurdles. The USU men finished with 17 top-three finishers.

Next week Utah State will compete in the Robinson Invitational at Brigham Young, April 24-26 and the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Oregon, April 26. Utah State did not compete in either event last year.
