DANVILLE, Calif. - Utah State's women's tennis team fell to top-seeded Cal Poly, 4-0 in the second round of the Big West Championships on Friday, April 25. The ninth-seeded Aggies finished the season at 9-10, tieing the best record in the program's 16-year history. The Mustangs improved to 18-6 on the season.
Due to poor weather conditions the match was called after the Mustangs had secured the win with four singles victories. USU's Caroline Pollock, playing in the final match of her collegiate career, and Lindsey Bennion were both ahead in their respective singles matches, before they were retired because of rain.
Leading the way for the Aggies in doubles this season was Caroline Pollock and Lindsey Bennion with a 9-8 record. In singles play, Jill Smith finished the season with a 12-6 record.
The Aggies finished the season with its best record since they went 9-10 in the 1988-89 season. Utah State advanced to the second round by upsetting eighth-seeded UC Riverside, 4-2 yesterday. This was the second straight year the Aggies advanced to the second round.
